Here’s a reunion that actually makes some sense: the Stone Roses, a Madchester holdout and one of the touchstone bands of the early 90s rave scene, are nearing a reunion in honor of the 20th anniversary of their classic self-titled debut. For those keeping score at home, that means The Stone Roses came out a year after the Smashing Pumpkins formed. Crazy, no?

But the band who lost face time to the Happy Mondays in 24 Hour Party People has initiated reunion talks. Bassist Mani started the talks, and currently frontman Ian Brown is the only holdout. Brown is the most active former Stone Roses member, has continued to release solo albums, most recently 2007’s The World is Yours. But Mani seems convinced he can get Brown to join the rest of the band:

“Me, [guitarist] John [Squire], and [drummer] Reni are up for doing it and Ian just needs some working on. It’s the ideal time to do it. It’s something I would love to do before we are all fat and bald. Start the campaign.”

This would certainly be an interesting development: could ’90s nostalgia replace ’80s nostalgia officially as we approach a new decade? Either way, this will probably result in a full performance of The Stone Roses album. Whether Ecstacy will come back into fashion remains to be seen.”

Last night in Berlin we went to celebrate Sandhy’s release Party in Lido. After years of work, Sandhy finally got his record out. The venue was fully packed and Sandhy rocked, supported also by Gregor Meile, friend he found at Stefan Raab’s casting show last summer. Sandhy performed over an hour of music, and this is Down on the streets.
